The mission of 208 Squadron is to train the combat pilots of the future.

On the 2nd June 2006, members of the 208 Squadron Association were invited to RAF Valley to join 208(R) Squadron for its 90th Anniversary.

Over 200 guests arrived ready to enter into the celebrations.  With the glorious Anglesey weather helping proceedings, squadron members, both old and new were treated to numerous flying displays and a deeper insight into how the squadron functions in its new role as a fast-jet pilot training unit.

The day gave an opportunity to reflect on the history of 208 Squadron.  Careful archiving of documents and photographs had been made in preparation for the anniversary and all the guests enjoyed reminiscing over their past experiences on 208 Squadron.

This special day also saw three courses graduate onto the tactical weapons training phase. V97, V98 and IAF 6 therefore had the privilege of demonstrating their flying prowess by conducting a 9 ship flypast, a special moment in their flying careers.

The day’s celebrations continued into the evening in typical 208 Squadron fashion.

“Wonderful to see such an efficient and helpful squadron.  Roll on the Centennial”
Philip and Catherine Pinney (Former OC 208 1977-79)

“A very happy day. Met many friends. Even some old colleagues”
Sidney Jefford

“Great day – I want a simulator”
Roy Johnson
